How to Sleep on a Buckwheat Pillow

This post is a part of the complete buckwheat pillow buyers guide

Buckwheat pillows are excellent and good for your health. The comfort they give is out of this world. I can go on and on about the benefits, but we have other articles that talk about the buckwheat pillows, such as this one.

Many people have questions about how to use a buckwheat pillow. It can be hard to get used to a buckwheat pillow, mainly because the texture is different from the traditional pillow.

It’s firm and not fluffy like the conventional pillow. It adjusts your sleeping posture and changes the way you sleep. However, when you get used to it, the effect is magical.

How Long Does it Take to Get Comfortable Sleeping on Your Buckwheat Pillow?

For some people, the texture is off, while for some, the sound it makes prevents them from sleeping. If you fall into any of these categories, it can be very tempting to abandon your buckwheat pillow and go back to the traditional fluffy pillows.

However, we advise you to use it for at least fourteen days and allow your body to adjust to the new pillow before you give it a write-off. For some people, it takes thirty days to get used to it.

Tips to Help You Sleep More Comfortably on Your Buckwheat Pillow

I’m going to give you some tips on how to use your buckwheat pillow and get the most comfort out of it.

1. Adjust the fill

There are different strokes for different folks, so the amount of hull needed depends on individual preference. Some people like their pillow firmer than others. The key is adjusting it to suit your taste.

A lot of buckwheat pillows are usually well stuffed, sometimes overstuffed. An overstuffed buckwheat pillow is going to be uncomfortable.

The best thing is to remove some of the hulls used as fillings. Removing the hulls is easy as well. You open the pillow and remove the hulls using a cup. Then you can store it in any container.

Once you remove the buckwheat hulls to your satisfaction, test run your pillow to check how comfortable it is. Is it softer? This is because there is more space for the buckwheat hulls to move.

2. Fluff your pillow

Your buckwheat pillow can feel very firm if it is not well fluffed before you lie down on it. To fluff the pillow, all you have to do is push the sides together to create a tall amount of buckwheat bulls, then you rest your head in the middle of the pillow, in the position that you want to sleep in.

The buckwheat hulls take the shape of your head, neck, and shoulders. The height of the pillow must be enough to support your shoulders. So, when you want to sleep, your body merges with the pillow, and you sleep comfortably.

Try to support your body with the buckwheat pillow. This means if you sleep on your side, use three pillows: one for your head, one between your arms, and one between your legs. If you sleep on your back, tuck a second pillow under your knees to help straighten and support your spine.

Tip to Help You Sleep Well on Buckwheat Pillow Despite its Rustling Sound

I mentioned earlier that the buckwheat pillow makes a rustling sound. Some users complain about it but after a while, most people get used to it and start to feel that it even becomes soothing and not distracting, unless you’re a very sensitive sleeper.

This is one of the reasons we advise you to use the pillow for at least fourteen days before deciding against it. Also, the noise decreases after a couple of months as the buckwheat hull breaks in.

Conclusion

Although it takes time to get used to, buckwheat pillows are excellent and give maximum comfort.

A buckwheat pillow is flexible and conforms to the shape of your body. It allows for good positioning, reduces snoring, and allows good airflow while supporting the muscles which is perfect for a good night’s rest.
